Fr. Rohr writes in Preparing for Christmas:
“In his most radical proclamation of the Kingdom, the Lord tells us that today’s choices have to be such that tomorrow is still open. Most people are not free to hear the gospel because it would take too much backtracking and undoing.
So many of our people have put all their roots into this world. They’re good people who come to days of recollection and buy meditation books and ask, “How do we extract ourselves?” We’ve made so many choices in the past that have completely determined our tomorrows, and so tomorrow is not open for new questions. The old answers have us in a leghold.
We must ask: Is tomorrow open to ask the radical questions that Jesus asked us about success, security, power, possessions and love?”
