Environmental Assassinations: Do we care?

Here is a link to an article about another death of a protester. Not just any kind of protester, but one who has been protesting for environmental reasons.

Increasingly the violence against those that are attempting to hold accountable those who are exploiting the earth is on the rise.

Should we care? Or should profitability justify these kinds of death on the down low?

Just puzzled…

  1. Wow. I had no idea that this was happening outside of eco-thriller films. Thanks for letting me know!

(and in answer to your questions:
    #1 – yes
#2 – what answer did you expect?!)

  2. Diane-

thanks for the comment. Actually, I think more people implicitly think that violence to protect personal wealth is ok. That is what is so confusing about this; namely that we have heard so little about it. Kind of reminds me of the incidents portrayed by the movie ‘Blood Diamond’.

    Hope that makes sense..

  3. I hope you’re wrong about people’s tacit endorsement of violence in the name of personal property. I’ll have to do some more thinking about that.

“Blood Diamond” has been on my to-watch list for some time. I will have to bump it up the queue!
